A professor at California State University, Fullerton, and a native of Rutland, Gayle Brunelle co-authored Murder in the Metro: Laetitia Toureaux and the Cagoule in 1930s France. On May 16, 1937, Laetitia Toureaux, a 29-year-old Italian-born factory worker, was murdered in an otherwise empty first-class compartment on a Paris métro train. The case has never been solved, and the case files were ordered sealed for 101 years. In this fascinating book, it is revealed that she was involved with a secret, extremist fascist group known as the Cagoule; she also worked for a detective agency and was an informer for both the French police and the Italian secret service. The book looks at the bitterly fractious world of 1930s French politics. Finally, it provides a strong plausible case for who murdered Toureaux and why. This Rutland author will talk about, and read from, her new novel, God’s Waiting Room. The book views the “Golden Age” of seniors through the eyes of Davi, a precocious seven-year-old girl, whose grandfather has just been diagnosed with Alzeheimer's disease. Davi's initial response of fright and confusion soon turns to caring and support as she helps her mother cope, not only with her father's disease, but also to see the elders of the community, with all their varying infirmities, in a new light. It is the story of a serious illness but it is filled with many quirky characters and uses levity and light-heartedness in telling the story. Helen Lambert is a retired clinical psychologist and has lived in Vermont for 40 years. God's Waiting Room is her first novel.

Hidden amongst the hills and mountains of southern Vermont are the remnants of sixty former ski areas, their slopes returning to forest and their lifts decaying. Today, only fourteen remain open and active in southern Vermont. Though they offer some incredible skiing, most lack the intimate, local feel of these lost ski trails. Jeremy Davis looks into the over-investment, local competition, weather variation, changing skier habits, insurance costs and just plain bad luck that caused these ski areas to succumb and melt back into the landscape. Jeremy Davis, author of Lost Ski Areas of Southern Vermont, grew up in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and in the 1990s, he skied frequently in southern Vermont. He began to explore the lost ski areas in that region. He founded the New England Lost Ski Areas Project in 1998. He has served on the board of directors of the New England Ski Museum since 2000 and is employed as a senior meteorologist at Weather Routing Inc.
